We continue in prayer for our brothers and sisters in Haiti. In the aftermath of last week's 7.0 earthquake, a 6.1 magnitude aftershock struck Haiti on Wednesday morning. Please keep the work of World Relief in mind as you seek to identify trustworthy organizations that are playing an active, vital role in what is sure to be an ongoing effort to help the people of Haiti deal with the impact of this tragedy. |

We thank God for His many blessings. Over the past week we have been blessed to be able to GIVE. We have witnessed faith and compassion in action as our church family has responded to the needs of the people of Haiti in dramatic fashion. Starting with a special offering on 1/17, over $15,000 has been donated to support the Haitian Relief effort. If you would like to make a contribution, please CLICK THIS LINK or contact our church office (202-829-2773). |

We thank God for the blessing of our sister, Kamilah Martin-Proctor. She is leading an effort to empower our members to connect in a new and convenient way. She has established two "listservs" (NSBCDC and NSBCDCParents) using Yahoo Groups. These listservs make it easy to engage in ongoing online discussions with members of the group. To get started, visit Yahoo Groups and search for the appropriate group. Questions? Please contact Sister Martin-Proctor at kamilahproctor@gmail.com. |

On January 18th Pastor Harkins delivered a powerful sermon from the Book of Esther. In addition to our church family and many visitors, those gathered in worship included the then President-elect, Barack Obama and his family. Pastor Harkins' sermon included a reminder to all of us that we very well might have been prepared and placed where we are "For Such A Time As This". |
|
We encourage you to join us in studying the Book Of Ephesians ON YOUR SCHEDULE with the Personal and Family Bible Study. Also, visit the Audio Sermons page to hear Pastor Harkins' sermon series from the Book Of Ephesians. |

The health ministry at Nineteenth Street enthusiastically embraces the key role that churches can play in health promotion and disease prevention in the faith-based and wider community. The church is an ideal setting to establish preventive health care programs because of its capability to provide services focused on the functional needs of people. Please visit our listing on the "Ministries" page for more information. |

Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) Secretary, Kathleen Sebelius helped to launch National Influenza Vaccination Week on Sunday, January 10, 2010 by speaking about vaccine safety at the historic 19th Street Baptist Church. Delivering her message from the podium, the Secretary encouraged the entire congregation and all Americans to stay healthy this flu season by getting vaccinated for both the seasonal and H1N1 flu. |
