Our Men's Ministry schedules meetings and fellowship breakfasts on a regular basis. On a weekly basis we perform a variety of tasks around the church designed to keep it beautiful and ready for all services.
The purpose of the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church Men's Ministry is to develop men of Christian character, encourage and provide opportunities for men to apply their skills and talents, and to use Godly men as a witness and encouragement to others. |

This ministry was first established in 1988. We meet at the church on the SECOND Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM. We have 5 primary areas of focus.
1) To bring women together in various ways to help them develop deeper relationships with Christ. Central to that mission is prayerful thinking, the study of the scripture and Christian fellowship.
2) To equip women of faith to serve God more effectively in their homes, church and community. This includes nurturing vibrant relationships with Christ, cultivating godly character, developing Bible-based leaders and supporting and nurturing compassionate caregivers.
3) To provide opportunities for fellowship through various ministries designed for our spiritual development.
4) To encourage individual participation in church-wide activities and to strengthen the bond of friendship among women of all ages.
5) To uplift each other in every way of life.
In addition to our chairperson, Sister Joyce Day, our leadership team includes the following willing workers: Deacon Sandra LeSesne; Deacon Cheryl Coleman Hall; Sister Virginia Lee; Sister Tanya Agurs-Collins; Sister Robin Smith; Deacon Candidate Johnnique Love; Sister Lorise White Wolfe; Sister Cecelia Johnson; Sister Ginia Avery; Sister Phyllis Young; Sister Leslie Wiley; Deaconess Louise White; Reverend Robin Turner.
We meet on the SECOND Wednesday of each month. Please join us - we'd love to have you come and pray with us and share with you the love of our Risen Saviour.

Mission of Christian Education
I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you. Psalm 32:8
Christian Education is the teaching ministry of the Church. It provides direction for teaching activities of all ministries, for the main task of Christian Education is to teach the truth about God. Our purpose is to connect people with other believers and ministries of the church, and to coordinate all functions as directed in the Church constitution. Knowledge, perspective, conviction, skills and character are all strands of Christian education, and mark spiritual growth and development. We recognize and make room for the people of God; to give and receive spiritual, physical, intellectual and emotional support for the development of a faith driven relationship with God and attainment of eternal life.
Purpose of Christian Education
The purpose of Christian Education is to provide a way for the church to achieve its goal of perpetuating God's plan. Paul stated that the purpose of teaching was to develop character in those taught. "But the goal of instruction is love from a pure heart and a good conscience of strong faith." (I Timothy 1:5)
Our overall purpose is to bring God's people to HIM and perpetuate His church. God's Word stands firmly on its own. Christian Education helps Christians understand and express Christianity, and aids them in making connections to God. Good teaching helps us to stay focused on Christ's examples and avoid extremes that frequently get brought in the church. The focus changes when we take social and cultural trends and mix them with God's Word. This can lead to confusion and incomplete understanding of Christ's command to go and make disciples. Each Christian is to first, learn; then go and teach others. God's church is to worship, provide instruction, fellowship, evangelize, and serve, thus, drawing God's people closer to Him as they carry out the Great Commission. The ultimate goal is to develop Christ-like character and to have the church family become "doers of the Word, not hearers only". (James 1:22)
Responsibility of Ministries
Today each church has a responsibility in the ongoing and building up of the Body of Christ. Just as each church is building the Body, each ministry within the church should have as its framework for teaching and doing God’s work the following components: o Worship o Instruction o Fellowship o Evangelism o Service Sunday 8:30am - 9:55am

Quick Quiz:
1. Are You Ready For Your Son To Become A Christian Man? 2. Would He Enjoy Having Fun And Learning Some Important Things In The Process? 3. Would The Young Man In Your Family Benefit From Spending Time With Christian Men That Are Committed to His Success?
If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above, then you'll want the young man in your life to participate in the Manhood Training Ministry. The Manhood Training Ministry is the newest component of the Men's Ministry. The Manhood Training Ministry will take traditional rites of passage programming to the next level. More than 15 men have committed to serving as coaches for this ministry that will meet throughout the school year.
Mission & Purpose
We are seeking to assist young boys as they make the journey from boyhood to strong Christian manhood. In this ministry we will utilize prayer, specific informational instruction and developmental activities. We have identified four specific areas upon which we will focus and use to measure the success of the MTM. We will empower the young men by increasing their appreciation and understanding of the following.
Definitions of Real Christian Manhood – responsibility, accountability, integrity, self-reliance, self-respect, respect for others, importance of community
Importance of God in our Lives – deeper relationship with and knowledge of Our Risen Savior
Self Awareness and Self Esteem – strong sense of who they are, who they can become and the legacy of achievement to which every Black man can lay claim
Importance of We – lessons and examples on the importance and power of coming together with other African American men for the betterment of our families, communities and all the things we hold dear
The Manhood Training Ministry (MTM) will meet every other week on Friday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Each week, the sessions will include free food, games, role model discussions, skill building and numerous opportunities for young men to learn from mature, committed Christian men.

There are 15 "Circles" here at the Nineteenth Street Baptist Church. Our Circles Ministry is one of the many ways that we "connect" as a church family. Each "Circle" covers members residing in specific number of zip codes. You can find the came and contact information for your Circle by visiting the Forms page of our website.
The Circle Ministry, in partnership with the Church Pantry Committee, spearheads the annual Fall Food in-gathering on Circle Ministry Sunday.
Each member is assigned, by zip code, to one of the 15 circles; each family unit and/or household is assigned within the same circle
Each circle has a circle leader or leaders and at least 6 captains; each captain has approximately 10 members to contact
Each circle leader or captain is encouraged to contact each new member assigned and to maintain follow-up contact with all circle members
Each circle has one or more spiritual advisers assigned to provide spiritual guidance to the circle leader as well as the members
Each circle is a partnership to promote Christian fellowship, concern, comfort, and contact.
Each circle is a communications network to share information regarding church activities and other events of mutual interest and concern to enhance Christian and personal growth.
Each church member is encouraged to promptly provide change of address information and new telephone numbers to the Circle Leader or Circle Captain or Church Secretary.

The health ministry at Nineteenth Street enthusiastically embraces the key role that churches can play in health promotion and disease prevention in the faith-based and wider community. The church is an ideal setting to establish preventive health care programs because of its capability to provide services focused on the functional needs of people.
Through the visionary leadership of Pastor Derrick Harkins, the health ministry of The Nineteenth Baptist church has over the past few years, demonstrated a level of support, compassion, and caring that have made and will continue to make programmatic efforts effective when mobilizing people/groups to accept change;- change that makes a difference in protecting their health and the quality of their lives. We have learned through our health education programs, sponsored by the health ministry and community partners, that the church may also be an ideal venue for connecting health services and education to a broader scope of health research and policy concerns.
This ministry primarily addresses issues of health that are problematic in Americans in general and African Americans in particular. Health practices such as HIV/AIDS screening and testing as a responsible behavior, blood pressure, diabetes, prostate and colon cancers, stroke and Alzheimer’s screening and life-style education can be easily done in any church setting;-remembering that African Americans have traditionally trusted and valued the power and role of the Black Church for information and guidance in their lives. We pray that nurturing and protecting this trust will open the doors to “unlimited”and powerful expansion of Church Health Ministry. |
